Military relocation · Fort Hood and Central Texas
PCS to Central Texas with an agent who's a military spouse
Maggie Clark knows the pressure of PCS orders and tight timelines firsthand. The Walls Clark Group helps military families buy, sell or rent near Fort Hood and across Central Texas, often before they arrive.
How a PCS purchase works with us

Tell us your report date, family size, budget and whether you want to buy or rent. Maggie is a military spouse and will build the plan around your dates. - Get VA pre-approval
We introduce you to lenders who close VA loans regularly. You'll need your Certificate of Eligibility and recent LES. - Tour from anywhere
We send video walk-throughs and neighborhood drives, and check commute times to your gate. - Offer, inspection and appraisal
We negotiate for you and handle the VA appraisal and any required repairs. - Close remotely or on arrival
Sign with a mobile notary or remotely where allowed, then pick up your keys when you land.
Where military families live
Most families stationed at Fort Hood live in the communities right outside the gates. Households with one spouse working elsewhere in Central Texas often choose a home along I-35 or I-14 to split the commute. Our Central Texas guide covers school districts, property taxes and what to know before you buy.
VA loans in brief
- No down payment for eligible buyers, within lender and VA guidelines
- No private mortgage insurance
- A one-time VA funding fee, waived for many veterans who receive VA disability compensation
- The home must be your primary residence; a VA appraisal is required
- Texas veterans may also qualify for Texas Veterans Land Board home loans
Rules change, so confirm your eligibility and costs with a VA-approved lender. We're happy to introduce you to one.
Military relocation questions
Can I buy a home with a VA loan in Texas?
Yes. Eligible service members, veterans and some surviving spouses can use a VA-guaranteed loan to buy a primary home, often with no down payment and no private mortgage insurance. A VA funding fee usually applies unless you're exempt, for example because you receive VA disability compensation. Get a Certificate of Eligibility early.
Should I buy or rent when I PCS to Fort Hood?
If you expect to stay three years or more, or you'd keep the home as a rental after your next move, buying often makes sense. For shorter tours, renting keeps you flexible. We compare both, including what the home could rent for later.
Can I buy a home before I arrive?
Yes. We do video tours, coordinate inspections and appraisals, and arrange remote or mobile-notary signing, so you can close before you report or shortly after.
What if I get orders while I'm selling or renting out my home?
Tell us as soon as you know. We can price for a faster sale, line up a lease through our rental listings, or time a sale so you're not carrying two homes.
Where should I live if I'm stationed at Fort Hood?
Several communities border the post with short drives to the gates, while towns farther out along I-14 and I-35 suit households splitting a commute with a job elsewhere in Central Texas. We map drive times to your gate for every home you consider.
